How is AI used in the Service Design programme?

Students are encouraged to use AI as a supportive tool to enhance their learning, not as a replacement for their knowledge. While we currently do not offer specific lectures or courses on AI in service design, plans are underway to integrate this into the curriculum. This will ensure that students learn how to responsibly and effectively use AI tools, preparing them for its increasing role in the industry.

How is AI used in the workplace as a service designer?

AI is transforming how service designers operate. AI can automate routine tasks such as gathering and analyzing user feedback, identifying behavioral patterns, and even suggesting design improvements. This enables professionals to focus on more strategic tasks, such as co-creating with stakeholders and innovating new service models.

However, a strong foundation in service design principles remains crucial, as AI-generated solutions often require critical evaluation, refinement, and adaptation to ensure they meet real-world needs and deliver value to users. Combining AI tools with your expertise is essential for delivering effective and sustainable service solutions.

Why study Service Design?

Demand for service designers is increasing as businesses focus on improving services with a customer-centric perspective. This requires understanding interaction with end users, which is the core of service design.

The programme equips you with skills to tailor customer experiences through user research, customer journey mapping, service blueprints, ideation, and prototyping. You will learn creative problem-solving and how to integrate digital technologies into service design, with an emphasis on digital transformation and customer experience.

The goal is to provide a solid understanding of customer needs, service strategy, and design thinking, enabling you to create valuable service designs across various industries.

💰 Salary statistics from Finn.no show that service designers in Norway can earn around 770,000 NOK annually.

Programme information

The first semester of the programme provides a practical understanding of principles, methods and introduces tools for creating innovative service designs. You will receive extensive training in identifying user problems that require new solutions, and learn how to gather insights to generate new ideas. Based on ideation, you will develop your skills in creating concepts and prototypes for testing. Visualisation and drawing methods are central to designing services and creating customer journey blueprints.

The second semester builds on this foundation and focuses on applying your skills in more advanced projects. You will learn to plan and facilitate workshops, a key tool for bringing new service designs to life. Writing service proposals and carrying out service planning for future projects is also a key component of this semester.

Each semester involves working on a substantial project with interim submissions. Both semesters conclude with a final submission and assessment of the project you have worked on.
