How is AI used in Technical Design - Mechanical?

We encourage students to use AI as a resource while providing guidance on ethical and responsible use. As a student in our program, you will have access to CoPilot as your official AI engine, helping you develop skills applicable to a variety of leading AI platforms. You will gain insights into best practices for using AI in projects and an understanding of potential risks associated with misuse, enabling you to become a responsible and informed user.

How is AI used in the workplace as a technical drafter and CAD operator?

As a technical drafter and CAD operator, Autodesk software is widely used, and these programs are expected to gain AI functionality by 2025.

Technical Design - Mechanical is an exciting programme that focuses on developing technical solutions for products. You will gain skills in drafting production drawings and developing prototypes by 3D printing. .

Throughout the programme you will acquire knowledge of fundamental design principles from the industry. You will learn about industry relevant software’s for 3D modelling and after 3D print your models.

Programme information

This programme provides a comprehensive understanding of technical drawing and modelling, focusing on both mechanical and architectural aspects. Through practical projects and visualisation tasks, you will develop the ability to conceptualise and present ideas. The programme also includes product design and prototyping, where you will gain practical experience of turning an idea into a product. A key element is the use of computer-aided design (CAD) to realise and document projects.

The exam project gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and skills through an integrated application of the skills you have learnt. Overall, the programme provides a solid foundation for you to explore and implement creative concepts in technical design.

Hardware requirements:

  • Desktop PC/laptop that meets the system requirements for the software used in the programme. If you are buying a new PC, we advise that you provide the software specifications for the required software to a professional to help you with the purchase.
  • Microsoft® Windows® 10/11.
  • Mac is not suitable, since some programs are incompatible or work less optimally.
  • Access to a 3D printer.

Approximately NOK 1000 per year should be expected. Free alternatives can be used but are not recommended.

Noroff has ongoing admissions, and applications are processed in the order they are received. The earlier you apply, the earlier you can secure a study place.

To qualify for the program, you must have general study competence or vocational education with a professional certificate. It is also possible to apply based on recognized prior learning.

All our study programs are approved for loans and grants from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen). You can apply to the Loan Fund for basic support (loan and grant; NOK 166.859) and tuition fees (NOK 79,432).

As an adult student, you can receive loans and grants from the State Educational Loan Fund. This also applies if you work while studying.

As a main rule, you must be a Norwegian citizen to receive support from the Norwegian State Educational Fund. However, foreign citizens may also be entitled to financial support. Check here to see if you are eligible.
