Students are encouraged to use AI as a supportive tool to enhance their learning, not as a replacement for their knowledge. While we currently do not offer specific lectures or courses on AI in UI design, plans are underway to integrate this into the curriculum. This will ensure that students learn how to responsibly and effectively use AI tools, preparing them for its increasing role in the industry.
AI can support UI designers by helping generate interface layouts, create design variations, adapt designs for different screen sizes, and automate repetitive tasks. This can make design workflows more efficient and allow designers to focus on refining interfaces, improving accessibility, and maintaining consistency across digital products.
However, a strong understanding of design principles remains essential. AI-generated outputs still require careful evaluation, refinement, and testing to ensure they are accessible, consistent, and aligned with user needs and project goals. UI designers must also consider the responsible use of AI, including accessibility, inclusivity, transparency, and potential bias in AI-generated designs.
User Interface Design (UI Design) is a hands-on one-year programme focusing on the visual design of interactive elements in digital products. It equips you with the skills to develop user interfaces, emphasizing accessibility and user-centered design principles.
The programme teaches design methods, visual principles, and industry-relevant tools. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to work on interface design development, both independently and in cross-functional teams.
Upon completion of the User Interface Design programme, you can pursue roles such as:
The programme begins with fundamental design principles and practical skills in relevant design tools. It covers topics such as design thinking, atomic design and universal design. You will gain knowledge of different typographies, shapes and production methods for design components. The semester concludes with a project, either working in teams for real companies or in interdisciplinary collaborative projects.
In the second semester, you will learn to build and maintain design templates, prototype, perform data visualisation and develop skills in creating dashboards and graphs. Emphasis is placed on professional development, career strategies and portfolio building. The year concludes with a project exam where you demonstrate your skills on a real project for a company.

To qualify for the program, you must have general study competence or vocational education with a professional certificate. It is also possible to apply based on recognized prior learning.

All our study programs are approved for loans and grants from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen). You can apply to the Loan Fund for basic support (loan and grant; NOK 166.859) and tuition fees (NOK 79,432).
As an adult student, you can receive loans and grants from the State Educational Loan Fund. This also applies if you work while studying.
As a main rule, you must be a Norwegian citizen to receive support from the Norwegian State Educational Fund. However, foreign citizens may also be entitled to financial support. Check here to see if you are eligible.
After completing the one-year UI Design program at Noroff, you have the opportunity to continue with two additional years at Deakin University in Australia and obtain a Bachelor's degree. This 1+2 pathway is also available to online students.
