Please use the website of Higher Education Entrance Qualification for Persons with Foreign Education - The GSU-list, where you can find the specific requirements for your country at the bottom of the page. All our studies have English language requirements. More information about how to fulfill those requirements is also to be found on the page for your country.

If your education is already approved by NOKUT, please upload this documentation in your application.

What does prior learning assessment mean?

If you have not achieved general study competence/higher education entrance qualifications, you may qualify for admission on the basis of prior learning through a combination of education and/or work experience if you are 25 years or older in the year of admission.

An assessment of prior learning looks at your overall competence and assesses it against the study programme you are applying for.

Each educational institution decides for itself what constitutes prior learning for its programmes, so what constitutes prior learning for different programmes will vary from institution to institution. Below you can read more about what constitutes prior learning for our programmes.

General minimum requirements:

Work experience:

Work experience can include various forms of work, such as paid work, apprenticeships, voluntary work and organisational work. All work experience must be documented with certificates, service certificates or work confirmations. These documents should include information about the start and end date of the position (or if you are still employed), the scope of the position (in per cent or number of hours per week), the employer's full name, the date of issue, and the stamp and signature of the employer.

Internships can also include education at upper secondary level and above. If you have completed a relevant vocational certificate or have attended a folk high school, vocational school, college or university, this should be documented in the application. Please note that all education must be documented with valid documentation. Military service, caring for your own children or close family, impaired ability to work, etc. can also be regarded as practice.

Feel free to contact us for more information about what can help you fulfill the requirement for practical experience.

The documentation you can submit to demonstrate your prior learning:

We ask you kindly to upload relevant documentation in your application. Not all items listed below will apply to every applicant—please include the materials that best reflect your education, work experience, and skills:

  • Certificate of competence or diploma of vocational competence from upper secondary school
  • Diploma and/or transcript of grades from any other education (e.g. vocational school education, higher education etc.)
  • Certificate of employment (practice must be documented with a certificate/service certificate and the documentation must state the length of employment, percentage of position or number of hours worked, the date of issue of the certificate and the full name of the company, in addition to being signed and stamped by the employer)
  • Application letter outlining your motivation for applying to this programme
  • Resume/CV
  • Documentation of your English skills in the form of an approved test. Read more about approved tests here.
  • Portfolio - If you are applying for a programme with a creative or practical focus (e.g. design, media or visual communication), we encourage you to attach a portfolio of your work. This can include design projects, artwork, digital media, game development and animation, or other relevant creative products. The portfolio helps us understand your skills, interests and practical experience.
  • Any other documentation you believe supports your application or demonstrates relevant prior learning or experience.

We will assess your application once all documents are uploaded. You can upload additional attachments after you have applied.
