– I think online studies work well if you want them to, says Assa Ágústsdóttir.
Assa Ágústsdóttir (22) is studying Graphic Design at Noroff Online Studies.
– I have always been creative. Since I was a little girl I have always loved drawing, painting and doing my own creations. But I have never had the courage to do something with it, until now, Assa says.
Graphic Design is a practical education where students learn to work creatively with visual communication.
– I spent a lot time searching for schools in Norway and Iceland – both online studies and on-campus. After discovering Graphic Design at Noroff – School of Technology and Digital Media, I found it interesting and decided to apply.

– When I got in, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I was very excited. I didn't know I could learn something like this, and the idea of creating visual projects seemed really interesting to me.
– How do you like the study program?
– It’s challenging, yet fun. Time sure goes by fast. I'm starting my second semester now and we are getting more complicated projects. But challenging yourself is important, she says.
– The online tutors are helpful and they almost always have good answers to everything. No one are simply told to figure things out on their own.

– Iceland is beautiful
Assa comes from a small town in Iceland called Hvolsvöllur.
– I love my country, even with all the bad weather. We hardly get summer but it can on a very lucky day go to 20 degrees celcius. The nature is beautiful. In the summer we have green grass, black sand and many waterfalls. But Iceland is also beautiful in the wintertime, she says.
She now lives in Tønsberg, the oldest town in Norway.
– I like Norway very much. It is very convenient for me to learn the language because in Iceland we learn Danish in school. Somehow Norwegian feels like Icelandic and Danish put together. I understand a lot, but I have a harder time talking.

– Can you describe a normal day working with your online studies?
– It’s very different how each day plays out. I'm able to study less when I have trainings, and more when I don't have trainings. I like studying late and sometimes it’s night time when I finish.
– I try to get up early, but it doesn't always happen, I admit.
– Would you recommend online studies to others?
– I would recommend online studies to those that are capable of being on their own. You need to be able to control yourself and follow a schedule. I have always managed to deliver my projects on time.
– I think online studies work well if you want them to. It all relies on the student and his or her self discipline.
– I would be lying if I said I never doubt myself, but I think that’s a part of every learning process, Assa says.
