The new one-year programmes Assurance in Cybersecurity Management and Cybercrime Investigation and Response are designed to meet the urgent need for cybersecurity competence.

Both programmes, each worth 60 ECTS credits, are designed to address the global shortage of skilled professionals capable of managing cybersecurity risks, conducting digital investigations, and ensuring digital resilience in today’s organisations.

– Cyber threats are evolving daily, and the need for qualified professionals is more urgent than ever, says Emlyn Butterfield, Rector at Noroff University College.

– Our mission is to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to stay ahead of emerging threats, ensuring business continuity and public safety. These new programmes reflect our commitment to providing education that keeps pace with the rapid developments in technology and security.

A Response to Growing Industry Demand

As digital transformation accelerates, companies and governments alike face a surge in cyber threats, from data breaches to ransomware attacks. According to Anita Karlsen, Director at Noroff University College, the launch of these programmes could not be more timely:

– We see increasing demand for experts who can protect critical infrastructures and business assets, Karlsen explains.

– These one-year programmes offer a highly focused curriculum that gets students career-ready in a short period. The industry is crying out for professionals with both the theory and the practical skills to combat cyber risks effectively.

Assurance in Cybersecurity Management

The Assurance in Cybersecurity Management programme equips students with fundamental skills in risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and IT governance. Graduates will be prepared to lead cybersecurity initiatives across industries, ensuring organisations meet regulatory standards and maintain robust security postures.

Dr. Piet Delport, Programme Leader for Assurance in Cybersecurity Management, highlights the importance of this qualification:

– Modern organisations rely on digital operations, but many still lack the governance structures needed to manage cyber risks. This programme is about balancing technology, risk, and compliance so that companies can keep their data and operations protected. We focus on real-world case studies, ensuring our students graduate with hands-on experience in auditing processes, regulatory frameworks, and strategic decision-making.

Cybercrime Investigation and Response

Simultaneously, Noroff is introducing a Cybercrime Investigation and Response programme aimed at developing skilled digital forensics professionals. The curriculum covers incident response techniques, evidence collection, and legal considerations, preparing students to investigate digital crimes, from hacking attempts to complex data theft incidents.

– Every action on a digital device leaves a trace, and knowing how to find and interpret these traces is vital in today’s world, says Veronica Schmitt, Programme Leader for Cybercrime Investigation and Response.

– Our students learn how to track and analyse digital footprints, secure evidence for legal proceedings, and respond to cyber incidents systematically. It’s a holistic approach that combines technical knowledge with ethical and legal best practices.

Pressing need for competent professionals

Noroff University College anticipates strong interest in both programmes, citing the rapid growth of the cybersecurity sector and the pressing need for competent professionals. Applications are now open, and the first intake will begin classes in August.

– We’re proud to be at the forefront of cybersecurity education, Rector Butterfield concludes.

– By launching these programmes, Noroff is taking a critical step toward shaping a safer digital future, one where organisations and individuals can confidently harness the power of technology.
