Oskar Heming Jenssen (25) is studying Front-end Development through Noroff Online Studies. He chose online studies because it allowed him to study from Denmark, where he lives with his girlfriend. Oskar initially started nursing studies in Denmark but quickly realized it wasn't the right fit for him.
– A friend told me about front-end development studies, and it intrigued me. I gradually understood what it was about and felt it suited me.
Front-end Development is the technology education where visual design meets coding, web, and UX design. The program is offered in Oslo, Bergen, Kristiansand and as online studies.
- I Love the Way the Lessons are Structured
As Oskar's girlfriend is studying in Denmark, moving back to Norway wasn't an option for the couple. Online studies became the solution for the 25-year-old. He appreciates the flexibility of online learning.

– I love the way the lessons are structured, by getting assignments. It's great to be able to read and complete assignments at your own pace, instead of being in a classroom where it's easy to lose focus.
– It's very motivating to work on assignments that you know are applicable in the professional world. What's enjoyable about Front-end is that you work on logical tasks involving coding while also having the opportunity to be creative through design. If you're someone who enjoys both aspects, this is an excellent program, he says.

Relevant Professional Projects
Oskar mentions that the focus of the study so far has been on fundamental coding languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. A typical assignment might involve writing JavaScript code that meets specific criteria.
– So far, I find JavaScript the most exciting and entertaining. I had no prior experience with it, so understanding it was challenging initially. However, as I gained more understanding, it became more enjoyable.

Oskar mentions one of the most comprehensive projects he has worked on, a semester project where students are required to use everything they have learned.
– We recently completed a semester project where we had to create an auction website. This was an individual project and was crucial in testing the knowledge and skills we've acquired so far.
Oskar is currently working on a new project where he is building a platform for students to connect with potential employers. The project is highly relevant to the profession as students work in teams and follow a "sprints" model, common in many workplaces.
– I'll give you an example; you might work on a code written by someone else, allowing you to experience what it's like to read and understand it. The project is challenging, but it allows room for trial and error.
After completing his studies, Oskar plans to find a job in Front-end Development. He wants to see if, after a few years of work experience, he feels the need to pursue further education.
– I've played with the idea of becoming a full-stack developer, but we'll see, he says.
The Front-end Development program started on March 14th online, but you can apply for a spot up to one week after the start date. The next online and campus start date is August 15th.
