From January 12, 2026, Noroff University College offers two new one-semester online programmes in 3D Animation and Game Art and Level Design, tailored for the next generation of digital creators.
Noroff University College continues to expand its portfolio of practical, industry-driven studies within technology and digital media. The new 30 ECTS programmes Digital Animation and Game Art and Level Design both focus on creative production, real-world workflows, and portfolio development.
Learning the tools that shape the creative industries
Students will work hands-on with software such as Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Unity, gaining an introductory understanding of the artistic and technical workflows used in professional animation and game studios worldwide.
– Game art is about creating worlds players want to explore, says Erik Hammer, programme leader for both new programmes.
– In Game Art and Level Design, students start learning the artistic and technical processes behind 3D environments and characters, building a foundation for further creative development and study. In Digital Animation, they bring those characters to life, learning how timing, performance, and storytelling turn ideas into emotion.
Both programmes are fully online, with fixed assessment deadlines that ensure steady progress. The structure allows students to study from anywhere while building practical, portfolio-ready projects in a collaborative, feedback-driven learning environment.
A growing demand for creative digital talent
The animation, gaming, and visual effects industries are expanding rapidly, both in Norway and internationally. Skilled 3D artists, animators, and level designers are increasingly sought after as digital entertainment and simulation become core parts of business and culture.
– These programmes reflect the strong demand we see from the creative industries, says Emlyn Butterfield, Rector of Noroff University College.
– Students develop the artistic, technical, and storytelling abilities that are essential in today’s animation and game production environments, and they do it using the same tools and workflows as the professionals.
Both short programmes can be completed full-time over one semester and are accredited with 30 ECTS credits. Students who complete them may apply for admission to a full bachelor’s degree at Noroff University College, with the 30 ECTS credited towards Interactive Media – Animation or Interactive Media – Games.
