Two years at Noroff and one year in Wales led to a bachelor's degree for Tobias. Even before he finished, he received a job offer from Norsk Hydro in his home municipality of Årdal.
By 2030, there will be a need for 40,000 more employees with ICT education, according to Abelia. This creates good job opportunities for students who choose education in IT. An example of this is 22-year-old Tobias Offerdal Røneid, who secured his dream job at Norway's second-largest company as a recent graduate.
The program was incredibly exciting, and I learned something new all the time while feeling both a sense of mastery and challenge. Tobias Offerdal Røneid
- The program was incredibly exciting
For Tobias, who had a great interest in IT, Noroff was a natural choice as it was possible to gain competence in a highly sought-after field like Network and IT Security. The program focuses on basic security work such as risk assessment and vulnerability analysis.
- IT is a very large and growing field. The program was incredibly exciting, and I learned something new all the time while feeling both a sense of mastery and challenge, he says.
He studied at the campus in Bergen, and describes the learning environment there as very good.
- The combination of theory and practice was incredibly good and suited me very well. Noroff often organized events where we got to meet and get to know both the class and fellow students from other programs.
2 years at Noroff + 1 year abroad = bachelor's degree
After a two-year vocational education at Noroff, students in most programs can take advantage of the school's partnership agreements and apply directly to the third year of international bachelor's degrees. Tobias chose to spend one year at the University of South Wales, thereby securing a bachelor's degree in Applied Cyber Security.
- The opportunity to jump into a third year in Wales after two years in Bergen was fantastic to secure an attractive bachelor's degree. It was an amazing experience, which I highly recommend. You get to meet new people, experience a new culture, and it's a very good program with skilled teachers, he says.
Studying abroad offers a unique opportunity to experience the world, build networks, gain sought-after skills, and develop linguistically. Read more about the 2+1 agreement here.
Got a job before he was finished
Even before Tobias completed the program, he secured a job as a Cyber Security Specialist at Norsk Hydro in his hometown of Årdal. Here, he will help maintain and upgrade security and protect the company against potential digital threats to the network. After living away for three years, he is now looking forward to returning home and starting his new job.
When this opportunity came, I had to take it, and it resulted in me getting the job. Tobias Røneid
- The tech town of Årdal has an incredible number of great job opportunities, but I initially thought there wasn't a job for me here. When this opportunity came, I had to take it, and it resulted in me getting the job, he says.
Tobias says he is incredibly proud and happy that both Årdal Municipality and Norsk Hydro can offer such opportunities in a small town.
- The most important thing I take away from my studies is the practical experience and theoretical knowledge that both Noroff and the University of South Wales have given me.
He adds:
- And not least, the importance and significance of teamwork and effective communication, which are essential in a role like the one I am entering now.
