Before Eskil completed the two-year Graphic Design program at Noroff in Kristiansand, he secured a job as a graphic designer.
- I chose graphic design because I found it to be an exciting field, and I had the impression that Noroff had strong industry connections as well as a more practical approach to the subject compared to other schools, says Eskil Falnes-Malmo.
Graphic Design is a hands-on education where students learn to work creatively and strategically with visual communication. The program provides the opportunity to apply skills to real-world projects, making students well-prepared to enter the job market directly. During his studies, Eskil worked with well-known brands such as Palmesus and Hennig-Olsen Is.
- I have really enjoyed studying, and I have learned about many different aspects of graphic design. I have worked on several challenging and exciting projects that have kept me engaged throughout, Eskil shares.
He also praises the learning environment at the campus in Kristiansand.
- There is a great learning environment with a lot of collaboration among students. Since the class sizes are small, we receive close follow-up from the lecturers.

From Internship to Job Offer
In the final semester of his studies, Eskil took advantage of the opportunity to have an internship and secured a placement at Aksell. The company is based in Kristiansand and is a powerhouse in design, graphic production, media services, and logistics.
- Having an internship has been very exciting and educational. It has been great to work in the industry and be part of a larger creative team.
During his internship at Aksell, he had a variety of tasks, including work in visual identity, illustrations, website design, and other small projects.
- I worked as hard as I could and remained engaged throughout the period, which I believe was crucial in demonstrating my passion for the field. After a few weeks, the managing director mentioned that they wanted me to stay on after the internship, and towards the end, I received a job offer.
In his role as a graphic designer at the company, Eskil will continue with similar tasks as he had during his internship, while also getting the opportunity to work on larger projects.
The managing director of Aksell Kristiansand, Joakim Coward-Hanssen, is very pleased to have Eskil as part of the team and wrote the following about him in a LinkedIn post:
“From day one, Eskil was given real client assignments, which he also highlighted as one of the best aspects of the internship. He has designed logos for several exciting projects – which, unfortunately, we cannot reveal yet. Eskil has truly proven to be a valuable asset to both us and our clients. He was so good that we decided to hire him before anyone else got the chance.”

Strong Competence
Eskil says that throughout his studies, he has built solid competence in many areas of graphic design. He has gained valuable experience with the design process from start to finish, which will be highly beneficial in his career.
- The projects have been industry-oriented, and we always presented our work as if it were for a real client, which has been very useful.
- What are your best tips for others who want to become graphic designers?
- Explore new things on your own in your free time in addition to your studies. Be open to feedback and constructive criticism, and establish good routines for the design process, he advises.

Met His Employer at a Portfolio Showcase
The lecturer for the Graphic Design program, Susanne Høst, says that Eskil has stood out as a reliable and skilled student from day one.
- He has always shown perseverance, even when the assignments have been challenging, and he has an impressive ability to visualize a message clearly and understandably for his clients and target audiences. That is such an important skill as a graphic designer! That’s why I am not surprised that Aksell wants to hire him.
Susanne especially remembers the portfolio showcase that the students had in the winter, where several industry representatives confirmed that Eskil made a great first impression. It was at this event that he first met Aksell, which is now his employer.
- It has been a pleasure to follow Eskil’s development, and I am proud of his achievements throughout his studies.
