After many years as a hairdresser, Fam Tandberg felt it was time for a change. Through Noroff Online Studies, she’s discovered the freedom to learn something completely new and to build a future in technology and cloud-based solutions.
For years, Fam loved her work in the salon, but eventually her body needed a different pace and her mind craved new challenges. She had always been fascinated by IT and technology, but never quite dared to make the leap, until now.
A new direction and renewed motivation
Fam enrolled in Cloud Foundations at Noroff Online Studies, a program that introduces students to how cloud solutions are built, managed, and secured.
Cloud solutions are the future of IT, as I see it. I want to understand how the technology works in practice and how everything fits together. I enjoy solving problems and understanding the systems behind them. Fam Tandberg
Switching from hairdressing to tech has given her a fresh perspective, and she’s discovered more similarities between the fields than most people would expect.
– As a hairdresser, I’ve always had to be creative, structured, and solution-oriented. It turns out those are the exact same qualities you need in IT, you just apply them differently.
Flexibility that makes it possible
For Fam, flexibility has been essential in balancing work and studies.
– It works really well to combine part-time studies with my job. The flexibility makes everything easier, I can study whenever it suits me, before or after work.
She especially appreciates being able to set the pace herself:
– I log in whenever I have the time and energy. It gives me the freedom to learn at my own speed without it affecting my workday.
New knowledge, new confidence
Fam is only a few weeks into her studies, but she already has a taste of what the IT world is like.
– So far, we’ve covered an introduction to IT, Packet Tracer, and project management. Everything is new, but incredibly exciting! I’m especially looking forward to topics like Windows/Linux servers and the more practical parts of the program.
It does require self-discipline, but the instructors are available when you need them, and the structure makes it easy to stay on track. Fam Tandberg
Dreaming of a future in cloud foundations
After completing her studies, Fam envisions a career in IT operations or cloud-based roles, ideally in a position where she can combine structure, problem-solving, and collaboration.
– I find Cloud Foundations really exciting, and I hope to build a career in that direction. At the same time, I’m open to wherever this journey leads, this is the start of something new.
To others considering a career change or online studies, Fam offers honest but encouraging advice:
– Go for it! For me, this has been a chance to follow a dream I’ve had for years but never dared to pursue. Online studies give you the flexibility to learn when it suits you. It takes discipline, but you grow more than you think along the way.
