Tina Marie Hjertås made the leap from the hotel industry to digital marketing. Through the 1+2 pathway, she’s gained hands-on experience and built a strong portfolio with companies like LEGO and the Welsh Rugby Union.

From Hospitality to Digital Marketing

A three-year degree wasn’t part of Tina Marie Hjertås’ original plan. After exploring different study options, she chose Noroff’s one-year course in Digital Marketing.

- I wasn’t planning on going back to school for three more years – I wanted a quicker route into working life. After looking at several alternatives, I found Noroff’s one-year program in digital marketing, which was a perfect fit for me.

Her interest in digital marketing was sparked by a desire for a more flexible career path.

- I wanted a career with flexibility and the possibility to work remotely. After seeing ads about digital nomads, I realized that digital marketing could offer me exactly that.

The 1+2 Pathway – A Practical Approach to Education

For Tina, a practical approach to learning has been essential. That’s why she chose the 1+2 pathway, starting with one year at Noroff in Bergen and continuing with two years at the University of South Wales (USW).

- I learn best through trial and error, rather than reading theory and discussing hypothetical scenarios. USW builds on what I learned at Noroff but takes it deeper. Through the 1+2 program, I can earn a bachelor’s degree without spending additional years studying.

Real-World Projects with LEGO and Welsh Rugby Union

As part of her education, Tina works on real marketing projects for large companies.

- The chance to work with actual businesses prepares us better for working life. We gain insight into how the industry operates and the standards expected in terms of quality.

Throughout her studies, she’s worked closely with lecturers who are still active in the field.

- It’s reassuring to be able to ask our lecturers for advice when we’re working on these projects. It gives us realistic expectations of what’s required in the job market.

Recommends Digital Marketing and the 1+2 Pathway

Tina recommends digital marketing to anyone considering a practical and career-focused education.

- You won’t regret it! Cardiff is a fantastic student city, and it’s easy to build a network – both with fellow students and through practical placements. USW partners with many marketing agencies, so there are great opportunities for internships along the way.
