A desire to grow creatively and build formal competence led Linda Näslund from working with social media in retail to enrolling in Digital Marketing at Noroff. Today, she feels more confident in her field than ever before.

Linda has always been creative and full of ideas. But it wasn’t until she was given responsibility for social media at her previous workplace that she truly realised how much she enjoyed working with marketing.

When responsibility for social media opened a new door

She loved creating content that engaged their audience. Through the role, she worked closely with both the Social Media Manager and the Marketing Manager, took part in producing a campaign video, and created content for the company’s TikTok channel.

When the store later received a diploma for its social media work, it became clear to Linda that this was a field she wanted to pursue further.

– I felt that I lacked the formal competence needed to take the next step in my career. That’s why I chose to study digital marketing.

A programme that fit perfectly into everyday life

As she began exploring her study options, Linda discovered Noroff and the one-year programme in Digital Marketing.

– The programme felt modern, relevant, and like a perfect match for me. The fact that it was 100% online made it even more appealing, as I could study without relocating or travelling from Sweden. Even though the school is based in another country, the choice felt completely right.

For Linda, online studies quickly became a natural part of everyday life.

– My children were in daycare during the day, which allowed me to work in a structured way on my studies. When life threw challenges our way, such as illness, I could easily adjust my pace and catch up later. The flexibility meant the programme fit our lives really well.

What she appreciated most was the ability to plan her own days.

– With a family and a house, you’re quite tied to where you live. Being able to study without moving the whole family was a huge relief. Some days I could even take time off if I was ahead with my work. That sense of flexibility brought real peace of mind.

Close support — even online

Despite the programme being entirely digital, Linda never felt alone.

– The lecturers were fantastic. They responded quickly, provided concrete feedback, and constantly encouraged us. You could really tell they wanted us to succeed.

The programme has given her a new level of confidence in how she works both creatively and strategically with marketing. She explains that she now thinks more holistically — and that in the long term, she can see herself starting her own digital marketing business.

She was also surprised by how much strategy lies behind successful digital marketing.

– It’s not just about creating visually appealing content. Everything needs a clear purpose. I also discovered how exciting analytics can be — it’s almost like detective work.

New opportunities ahead

The programme has opened several new doors for Linda and influenced which directions she wants to explore next. While she still plans to work with social media, she has also developed a strong interest in analytics and website work — areas she hadn’t previously considered to the same extent.

After completing her studies, she feels that her opportunities are far greater than before.

For others considering online studies, she has one clear piece of advice:

– Just go for it. Find a programme that fits your life. Online studies give you room to learn and grow, while still having the energy for everyday life. If you take the step now, you’ll be glad you did a year from now.
