Prof. Erik Geslin, M.Eng., PhD.

Professor in Interactive Media

Erik Geslin is Professor in Affective Interactive Media at Noroff University College, Norway. With more than three decades of experience in the video game and interactive media industries, he combines game design, creative direction, UX, cognitive science and affective research to explore how emotions shape player experience. His Ph.D. research at ParisTech ENSAM investigated processes of emotion induction in video games and VR, followed by research on emotionally reactive avatars at Laval University and UX research on affective gaming with Ubisoft FUNii.

He is co-founder and co-director of the Center for Non-Anthropocentric Play (CNAP) and develops ecocentric games, artistic experiences and research exploring alternatives to human-centred design. This work led him to develop the Holosystemic philosophy, which considers biological, physical, technological, informational and artificial systems as interconnected participants in a shared dynamic.

As an international lecturer, he encourages students, future game designers, artists and developers to understand that games and media do more than entertain: through narratives, emotions, mechanics and representations, they participate in constructing the collective imaginaries that shape society and our relationship with the living world.
