Presentation and Statement

The Artificial Intelligence Lab (AIL) is a research group at Noroff University College in Norway. AIL is a Lab of excellence for Artificial Intelligence applications, research, teaching, theory, and practice.

In 2023 the AIL will be hosting the ninth Mining Intelligence and Knowledge Exploration (MIKE 2023) conference in Kristiansand. The call for papers is now open.

Please see the MIKE website for more details.

Research Fields/Disciplines

In our research, we focus primarily on data science and machine learning, deep learning, which covers fundamental as well as applied research.

Investing in innovative student projects and involving industry partners will be among the goals.

On-going Research Projects

  • AI in Medicine
  • NLP for Norwegian Language
  • AI for Social Sciences

Team

Dr. Isah Lawal (PhD)

Dr. Isah A. Lawal was an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Fellow with over ten years of professional work experience, including teaching and research. He has participated in several collaborative multidisciplinary research projects at different universities including Europe (Italy and United Kingdom) and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia) and have authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences ranging from data-driven predictive modelling to machine learning for smart systems. In addition to actively engaging in research, he has also taught data mining, smart systems and artificial intelligent courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Dr. Sahar Yassine (PhD)

Sahar Yassine is currently an associate professor of Applied Data Science at Noroff University College, Norway. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Alcalá, Madrid, Spain. Her research interests focus on bringing together different data science areas and using scalable algorithms for large-scale inference problems. She has developed her research activity in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning and applying data analytics to investigate and integrate with different disciplines including social sciences, learning, health, and computational science.

Dr. Shahnila Rahim

Shahnila Rahim is currently an Assistant Professor in the Data Science Department at Noroff University College. She holds a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Kyungpook National University, South Korea. Her work focuses on deep reinforcement learning for wireless communications, with particular emphasis on UAV trajectory optimization and energy-efficient aerial computing. Her research interests include deep learning, reinforcement learning, robotics, aerial computing, and next-generation wireless systems. She has authored several peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in these areas.
