Weronika has found her way into an exciting career in frontend development, with experience from an internship at Aker Solutions. Her strategic choice of education is already paying off.

When Weronika Martinsen began her frontend development studies at Noroff, she had a clear goal: to build a career in tech. After two years of flexible, practice-oriented education, she landed an internship at Aker Solutions — an experience that would eventually lead to a full-time position.

- I made sure to do my best during the internship and stayed proactive and engaged throughout the process. I was curious, took initiative, and worked to build strong relationships with my colleagues, Weronika says.

After proving herself as an intern, she was offered a permanent position as a Front End Developer — a result of consistent effort and a positive attitude.

More responsibility and ownership

Transitioning from intern to full-time employee went smoothly for Weronika, mainly because she continued working on the same project. Still, the shift came with more responsibility and expectations.

- As an intern, you’re in a learning phase. Now, I’m expected to work more independently and make my own decisions. It gives a greater sense of ownership and professional growth, she explains.

A solid foundation from Noroff

Weronika credits her time at Noroff as a key factor in her journey from student to developer.

- Looking back, I can confidently say that choosing to study at Noroff was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The environment was both professional and supportive, and the instructors were always available and encouraging. It felt like a family, which helped me stay motivated.

She also highlights the importance of soft skills gained during her studies.

- Teamwork, communication, and the ability to give and receive feedback are just as important as technical skills. Noroff prepared me well for both.

A day in the life of a developer

Weronika’s workdays at Aker Solutions typically begin with checking for updates or pull requests that need reviewing. Then, the team meets for a stand-up to discuss progress, blockers, and the day’s tasks.

- I work on developing new features, fixing bugs, and collaborating with colleagues. Throughout the day, I also take part in code reviews and technical discussions to ensure quality.

Advice for future developers

- Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The most important thing is to keep learning, ask for help when you need it, and break down large problems into smaller parts. And remember — communication is crucial in this field.
